Shortly before 9 p.m. 6th. instant cracker-firing became general

throughout Victoria believed to have been started by receipt of telegrams reporting fall of Peking into the

hands of the Revolutionaries.

A large crowd gathered in front of the Sheung Po Printing Office in Connaught Road West: a few panes of glass in the windows were broken, and damage was done to property on the ground

floor.

Revolutionary flag eventually hoisted and the crowd cheered and

dispersed.

Large crowds paraded streets but were fairly orderly.

Police did duty through night in picquets.

This morning (7th.) about 10.30 another attack was made on the

Sheung Po Office. Police enquiring.

P.M.R. 14th. November:

Master of two Pawn-shops in Shaukivan West reports that at about

1.30 p.m. on 13th. instant a crowd of Chinese surrounded his shop. They shouted and asked why he did not put up a Revolutionist's Flag, fire crackers and close the business. Stones were thrown at the shop breaking all windows. Police arrived and advised hoisting a flag and firing crackers, which was done. Crowd seemed satisfied and shortly dispersed..

F.M.R. 21st. November:

At about 7 p.m. 20th. instant while P.S. 44 Willis of Registrar-

-General's Office was in vicinity of Central Market he heard a police whistle: he found a Chinaman had snatched a felt hat from another and run away. Sergeant had thief arrested, large crowd (about 1,000) collected and became very rowdy and threw bricks and stones &c., at the Sergeant who took shelter in the Kun Fong Bird Shop, No. 100, Des Voeux Road

Central. Crowd attacked shop demanding release of prisoner.
